Wawa to Open in Lakehurst, NJ
The opening of a new Wawa convenience store this summer is among the most eagerly anticipated events for Lakehurst, NJ.
The Wawa is anticipated to open in July, maybe as early as the Fourth of July weekend, it was mentioned during a recent Borough Council meeting. Now being constructed across from the Police Department, close to the intersection of Union Avenue and Route 70, is the former La Bove Grande.
The Wawa is still being built, and drivers are wondering how the entrance and exit routes will be laid out.
"I feel the engineers and state DOT (Department of Transportation) did the best they could," according to the Lakehurst Police Chief Matthew Kline. The new Lakehurst Wawa has three entrances and exits.
Although I expect some small traffic concerns when the store opens because it will be a new travel pattern for most, the chief stated he believes they would resolve themselves within a few weeks.
In 2022, the borough lost a 7-Eleven location that had served the neighborhood for many years. With minimal warning, it shut down. Also, this chain recently closed many outlets on Fischer Boulevard and Route 37 in Toms River.
On the edge of Manchester, a Toms River-based Wawa is a well-liked stop for people in need of gas and a hot beverage. Another well-liked stop is further along Highway 70 at the Manchester Wawa in Whiting.
Like with the majority of Wawa locations in the state at this stage, this facility, which is situated between those two stores, will also have a gas station. In Brick Township, Wawa added a new outlet last year. It has several locations in the towns of Jackson, Lacey, Toms River, Berkeley, and Plumsted. There are some of these without gas pumps.
